hot and hot fish club birmingham alabama Birmingham is a dynamic city with a lot to see and do for the traveler. Southern Hospitality is alive and well and you can find it at the following places. I stayed at the Hyatt Place in Down town. Spacious rooms, a pool, a nice little bar and a breakfast buffet that is complimentary with your room make this a comfortable stop on your journey.

If you are a breakfast devote like myself and are looking for the real deal, just down the street Is the Original Pancake House that is definitely worth the short pilgrimage from the Hyatt. Get there early, this is a local hot spot. The pancakes are fluffy, the omelets are huge and the grits with cheese were the best I had in Alabama.

For Dinner I had the pleasure of experiencing the Hot and Hot Fish Club. Co-owners Christopher and Idie Hastings have created a restaurant where the atmosphere is as good as the food. They have received national attention, Chris had just come back from an appearance on the Martha Stewart show on the evening I met him at the restaurant. The menu was thoughtfully constructed offering international and southern fare that is farm to table, done with skillful interpretation. Everything had a story of where it came from, even the plates were made in Alabama. They do reach further around the world for their extensive wine list. I had a ” Bilbao” Spanish Rioja that was the perfect compliment to the local duck I had for my main course.
