The Napoleon House New Orleans.
Josh, my bartender for the evening at the Napoleon House in the French quarter of New Orleans, Mixes me my third Sazerac cocktail. I had many plans to cruise Bourbon street and check out as many clubs as possible, but how could it get any better than where I was? I planted myself at the bar for hours, talking with an endless flow of new friends.
The Napoleon House is a 200 years-old landmark of old New Orleans. Originally the home of mayor Nicholas Girod, ( 1812-1815 ). He offered Napoleon refuge there during his exile in 1821. It has been open as a bar/restaurant since 1914.
Napoleon did not take him up on the offer, but a bust of him sat proudly on the back of the bar. The Sazerac is a magical mixture of Rye Whiskey, simple syrup, Peychaud’s & Angostura bitters, and Herbsaint: sometimes served with Mata Hari Absinthe.
So good.
