Nevis. Pictures of Paradise.

A short 4 hour flight from Boston and a quick 10 minute water taxi ride from its sister island St Kitts, and I have arrived in paradise. Waves lapping on the shores of a palm lined beach, turquoise waters glimmering,  the view is spectacular from my beach chair.  A killer bee rum punch in my hand,  with no where else  to be or deadlines to meet, this is my job for the next few days.  Nevis; “Queen of the Caribees.  “Land of Beautiful Waters”,  the “Sweet Island”.

Nevis lacks the crowds of many Caribbean islands. A runway too short for big airplanes, and  a harbor is too shallow for huge cruise ships, it is protected from rapid development.

The birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, Nevis has a history so long and deep it belies its small footprint in the ocean. Some of the islands most beautiful lodgings are built within the remains of the once large sugar plantations that were so important to trade in the early Americas.

Nevis has plenty of food festivals and snorkeling, fishing, great restaurants and mountain jungle adventure, but for me its greatest resource is a slowed down pace of life  miles of beaches
