Ornulf Opdahl is considered by many to be “Norway’s most distinguished contemporary landscape painter.”He lives on the Island of Godoy, just across the fjord from Alesund on the West coast of Norway. It is a dramatic place, bigger than life, too big to capture in it’s entirety and constrain within the frame of a photograph or a painting no matter how big your canvas is. In his paintings, Ornulf looks closer. He shows us moments of light and form, pieces of the landscape that reveal more through his abstract clarity of focus and vision. His paintings are of the earth’s essence. They are feelings.
